According to some comments in the previous thread, the great dictator Richard Berry, like Napoleon before him, has returned from ignominious defeat in Ridgeway to challenge Rick Shular in Fort Erie.
Congratulations Mr. Shular on your re-election. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
WTF America???!??!?!?!?

Ok, this IS going to sound Anti-American, but it's not. Not exactly. I love
a number of American citizens, and I'm sure they're not this warped.

Oh, I see you got the news. Scooped again. Darn.
It follows the pattern. Darlene Hazlett insulted him by insisting that town contractors meet performance standards, and he ran in Ward 4 where he lives.
Rick Shular insulted him by telling him to you-know-what and so now he's running in Ward 2.
More of the pattern: his frequent appearances at council to tell them that they are all "bag lickers" and he's been posting on blogs. Next will be letters to the editor and then ads telling the whole story about how everyone is against him and only he can solve our problems.
I guess he finally heard about the new "Berry rule," as I call it, in the town's purchasing bylaw.
It has been kind of boring not having a big bully around.
Good luck Richard.
I guess with Richard Berry running in Ward 2 that will be its just a matter of time that we have Tom Lewis and John Papadakis in 1 and 6
and who knows a return of Bill Brunton in 5 .What a council that would be ? Eh ?
We'll see how much they like being on the receiving end of our own Bowerisms.
And we thought that the Council race would bore us to sleep. BERRY TO THE RESCUE! Can we get him a clown hat or big red nose? Oh sorry, his heavy drinking has already fixed the nose!
you missed Berry's performance tonight.
He walked to the podium, in a big parka looking like a homeless guy from downtown Toronto.
He insulted the council repeatedly, then when asked to stop, he told Whitfield to go to hell, so Whitfield told him he was done. Berry refused to leave, so the session was put on break and the police summoned to eject Berry.
Funniest thing I saw all night, with the exception of my speech, and the Unablogger and Susin pointing at me and talking about me. I assume I'll be next on the Strand tomorrow.
Oh, and check out my Blog for the copy of my speech before council on Monday night. It's a little long to post here, unless someone requests it.
I hope someone else gets into the race in ward 2. Rick Shular has got to go. I'm sorry but last night watching him ask council for a six month delay on the Bay Beach vote or he was going to vote against it? What would six more months do? This was a total political move trying to save face on both sides of the debate instead of having the courage to vote for what he thought was best for Fort Erie.
He speaks well but often I find too little substance in his words...will not ever vote for him again. And I certainly won't vote for Richard Berry, who was an embarrasment to our town during his time on council.
SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE RUN......
Well, wasn't that fun! As for Richard Berry, how he thinks that any self respecting voter would choose to elect a man that looks like a bum off the streets of down town that obviously has zero respect for the proceedures and rules of conduct of a public forum has me baffled. Bob Steckley, I don't really expect any different from Ann Marie Who really likes to hear herself drone on and on and on....but I am disapointed in you for your lack of forthought and caving to the snivivleing of the few and I do mean few, misinformed opposing actual voters. for those who were so fired up about this vote, why in God's great name did you all leave before the vote even took place? Sharon and her girlfriend were so wrapped up in each other that they didn't even know what was being voted on, it was to accept the report from Mr. Palmer, and as soon as it was accepted they litterally jumped out of theor seats and left the building. Once the In-Commitee meeting was adjurned, the council then opened a special council meeting to discuss the by-laws that needed to be voted on. Really, for people who claim to be soooo educated they really looked stupid to the few that remained in chambers to hear the full results. Oh well, maybe the bay beach issue is not that imoprtant after all in their world! I could have posted this to the strand blog but she wouldn't post it anyway so what would be the point?
Richard Berry is a gutless wonder.
It s funny that he will cause the disturbance and then run rather than be a martyr for his cause.
Keep on Running Richard !!!!!
Well the meeting went as planned. But the true reason for defeating this plan clearly was expressed last night. US private beach owners and their lawyers will fight to keep what they took from us a long time ago.PRIVATE BEACHES!Our plan for a better town doesn't matter to them. Clearly the opposition (FOCB and others) are defeating their own rights for a larger more enhanced waterfront .Was anyone listening? Ann-Marie Noyes was concerned that we might eventually expand to the west of our PUBLIC BEACH! Is she mental?A true patriot, one that opposes tax expenditures. Did she NOT get the e-mail? To rezone any property to the west, private beachfronts will become PUBLIC! Again! At NO COST to the taxpayer! HELLO! is there anybody NOT getting it?! P.S. The Nowak family that own cottages immediately next to this condo plan are in favour of the development. That they oppose it now, just adds to the cost or price needed to engage in talks to purchase their property.Good strategy, bad sportsmanship! What do you expect? Anything different?
Apparently the OBM process costs $20,000. I bet the adjacent property owners will put together an objection and present it to the OMB(with a little bit of help from a couple of ex-patriots,FOCB,and a couple of business people). $20,000 is a small investment if you split it amongst several private beach owners. They will recover their investment ten fold, when they sell to investors. In the end everybody receives what is due, revitalization and expansion with alittle capitalistic entrepeneurialship.Leave it to the US summer resident to come up with this scenario. Not only do they use us and mock us,but we must pay for beaches that they took from us.No wonder people in general don't like Americans.Thank you Ann-Marie Noyes! We can't wait to see what more you have in store when you become Mayor. You are truely not intended to watch over our "cookie jar",thanks but no thanks!
Are you trying to tell us that US private beach owners are pulling the wool over our eyes? No way! The US has always treated everyone with respect.Ask all the wonderful people all over the world about American occupation. There is no way that they will mistreat us.No way!lol I will speak slowly now so Ann-Marie understands. W-e c-a-n t-r-u-s-t i-n t-h-e-m. There Ann-Marie read into this, genius! Now help them in their cause and by the way,let us all pay for it,over and over again!
Who is encouraging Richard Berry to run in Ward 2? Do people think that we are gullible enough to believe that he is concerned about this area of town? Pulease- it's to get a seat on council, cause chaos and disorder and not do a bloody thing to revitalize this area.
Bay Beach Vote Won't Stop Us!

Dear friends of Bay Beach ...
The Council's final vote last night (well after midnight) was 4-3 in favour of the rezoning. Councillor Rick Shular came over to our side and voted NO along with Bob Steckley and Ann-Marie Noyes. Nearly 200 people attended the meeting at Town Hall and over 30 people gave presentations. Of the speakers, about 75% opposed the project and only 25% favoured it. There were some excellent speeches explaining why it is such a bad idea to rezone Bay Beach, give away our parkland, and allow a developer to build a 12-storey condo tower there. Here's a clip that was played on Channel 4 News at 10 pm last night: http://tiny.cc/ch4682 . And here's a link to the story in today's Buffalo News: http://tiny.cc/buffn . Although we were one vote shy of defeating the project last night, the 4-3 vote is a positive sign. It shows we have been effective in our efforts and it will help in our appeal.
Thanks for your strong support! Counting up all the public comments that were submitted and adding in the proxies and petitions turned in at the Jan 25 meeting, over 95% of the public opposed the Bay Beach development project. That's a staggering number, yet the mayor and three councillors disregarded our views. Luckily, there will be an election in October and we'll have an opportunity to elect people who will listen to us and care about preserving our public parklands ... people who will work with us to find real solutions to the problems we face. Stay tuned ... this will be a critical election!
We're definitely mounting a legal challenge ... this is not a "done deal". I'll fill you in as soon as I have more information, including how you can help.
We're all in this together ... thanks for your ideas and inspiration!

Your description of Richard Berry is good but why would you pick on the homeless in Toronto. I am in Toronto a number of times a week at night and the homeless that I see would make Berry look really bad. I don't think he could live UP to their standards, they have more class then that.
Wow...doesn't that sound alot like..
If we don't play my game, I'm telling your Mom and she'll make you play my game.
Give it up, FOCB...seriously.
Enjoy the benefits and just enjoy the beach too.
I guess it is an american way to explain failure.Suggesting that 90% of the population of Greater Fort Erie is in opposition is so out of touch with reallity. There are 30,000 people in Greater Fort Erie, not exactly an accurate assessment of the situation, Carolyn. If a referendum was available your judgement will be less favourable.Respectfully acknowledged by a supporter with many alot of mathematical background.
Abusers prey on the weak.Richard Berry is a VERY abusive person. After last nights vote I see why he's going after Shular.Insulting a bigotted abuser like Berry in public as Shular did and then apologizing after being riddled by abusive comments by him is just a recipe for more abuse.I hope Shular finds his backbone,we need him on council, not Berry.Shular still has my vote even if he bailed on us on the bay beach issue.
Sorry Marcia, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the precidents that your over paid laywers are quoting to you from Toronto's OMB hearings were on "your side" because the development violated the city's official plan. there is nothing in the current or proposed official plan of Ft. Erie that states that this development in any way is in contridiction to the plan. The OMB cannot do anything in your favor just because you have bunch of people whinning about it. Go ahead, waste your money and that of the poor people that you have brainwashed into believing that the town is out to get the people of crystal beach. Come on, you don't actually beleive it yourself do you, or have you been lying about this for so long you have lost touch with all reality?
Hey, bag licking is kind of fun, but not if you've got perpetual crotch rot.

Does this decision surprise you? this council does not give a rat’s ass about us and they never did, we elected these jack asses, and next election we will take them out.
It’s not over till the fat lady sings. I really don’t expect any of these people to get re elected. Our beach was just stolen by a council that did not listen to its constituents.
We were lied to and disgraced by the worst council in the history of Fort Erie. This is wrong. The voice of the people was completely ignored and this will reflect on your ignorant decision. I assure you that the next election all of you will be eating crow for dinner………

It was written by Bill Brunton.
To comment on Billy's post. The beach wasn't taken away from anyone. If anything this decision enables Crystal Beach a real opportunity to grow and business to prosper. The most important element of this decision for us as taxpayers is that we can actually expand our beach rights without coughing up another 2 million dollars. The rezoning of any properties on Erie road to the west of this proposal will result in all taxpayers receiving beachfront in exchange,I will say it again,FOR FREE.Get it? Some wealthy americans get it.That is why they brought their lawyers and planners to the meeting. To explain this clearly,if you hire someone to represent you and pay them handsomely, they will take your opinion or cause and make is theirs,no matter how wrong it can be.It's like having a defence lawyer defending you from a murder charge. You may have killed someone but if you hire someone to defend you, they will say anything and everything to defend you even if they know your guilty..You just brought your girlfriends and Ricky. How did that plan play out?Oh yes, because the Mayor is on the police board, the NRP were called in to bully Ricky. That is probably your interpretation, our is because your opposition is filled with so many holes you must resort in name calling and your usual bullying tactics.P.S.Why don't you run for council Billy,we will be glad to NOT vote for you again.
I CANNOT believe the topic and post that Sharon has just put up.
It is the most immature thing that I have seen in years.
I posted on the Strand but know it will be REJECTED.
